Green Libraries Week will return and run from 7th - 13th October 2024, celebrating libraries with a focus on the climate and sustainability.
Here are some things you can do to join us in celebrating Green Libraries!
Borrow
We have a wide selection of books to borrow, which is a very sustainable way to read! We’ve even pulled together some of our best books on recycling and upcycling, so why not borrow one of these and ramp up your green credentials?
Shop Secondhand
If you need to buy, then why not browse our secondhand books? It’s cheaper than buying a new book, you get the benefit of knowing you are doing your bit for the environment and your donations also help us to keep our libraries up and running for the community,
Recycle
You can now recycle your used batteries, printer cartridges, and any unwanted wool and even spectacles by dropping them off with us - much easier than going to the household recycling centre!
As we’re celebrating Green Libraries Week, we also have some things taking place in our libraries that we would love for you to join in with.
Green Poetry Book Group
Wednesday 9th October, from 2.30pm
Richmond Library
Inspired by poems about nature and the environment, we’ll be sharing poems that we have enjoyed at our Poetry Book Group.
This is a group aimed at poetry appreciation rather than poetry writing, so please bring along a nature themed poem you love and get ready to share it with the group, as we listen to the poems others have enjoyed.
There is no registration required, it’s free and open to all!
Big Book Sale
Monday 7th 10am-5pm, Wednesday 9th 10am-5pm, Thursday 10th 10am-6pm, Saturday 12th 10am-1pm
Catterick Library
A great way to be more green and reduce your impact on the environment is to buy second hand! So, we’re hosting a big book sale at Catterick Library throughout Green Libraries Week.
Head to our library on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to browse our selection of used fiction books, children's books, non-fiction books, coffee table books and more!
