Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK with over 47,000 diagnosed everyday-that’s 29 men every day. Have you considered the risk it may pose to you?

1 in 8 men will contract the illness in their lifetime and the risk increases with age. The average age for men to be diagnosed with prostate cancer is between 65 and 69 years but if you’re over 50 it’s a good idea to ask your GP about the options available to you to test for the disease. You may also want to enquire if you’re over 45 but have a history of prostate cancer in your family.

Prostate Cancer UK is a charity working to raise awareness of the illness and reduce the number of lives lost as a result. In the last 20 years the charity has invested over £37 million into ground breaking research and continue to provide award winning support for men across the UK on a daily basis. The overall aim of the charity is to not only raise awareness but to push for radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention and support to reduce lives lost from prostate cancer.

It’s a sensitive subject but CRACCL wants to raise awareness among our users about appropriate issues. help. On December 3rd between 10am and 1pm volunteer John from Prostate Cancer UK will be joining us in Richmond Library with his exhibition stand and all the information you could need about the illness. He will then be heading over to Catterick Library on December 13th at 2pm to support the Catterick community. Sometimes a trip to the doctor can feel intimidating so come and take advantage of some informal advice from John or even just come and grab a leaflet.

John will be at Colburn Library on the 21st February 10am-12pm with this exhibition, offering advice and leaflets to ensure you are aware of the symptoms and risks of the disease.
